Like father like son

by Manwhore

Patrick Roy found another way to be in the news this week, but this time, he sent his son to do the job for him. As you probably all know, Jonathan Roy savagely attacked the Sags’ goaltender last Friday after his dad clearly indicated to do so. Even if he claims he never did so, it seems obvious from the video tape of the game that daddy sent his little boy fighting for him.

In deed, Jonathan did a 180 on himself, seconds after we can clearly see his dad pointing at the other end of the ice (probably Bobby Nadeau the sags’ goalie), and tried to get rid of the referee who was holding him. After a couple of tries, the linesman let him go thinking that he had time to cool off and think about his action but Jonathan just went straight for Nadeau as soon as he was free and started to beat down on a player who definitely didn’t want any part of it. Patrick pretended that the other goalie skated to the blue line to then retreat in his net, but it seems obvious that he never wanted to fight and never even got close to the blue line. It is simply unacceptable to attack a player who isn’t fighting back and it could have been very dangerous because Roy didn’t stop when the other goalie went down but instead continued to punch him in the face and even in the ribs once Nadeau was down. Jonathan was probably inspired from one of many videos of his dad fighting in the NHL but he should have realized that once the other player is down and not responding to your attacks, no matter how mad you are, it is time to stop.

I believe the linesmen and referees are also to blame in this event because instead of trying to stop Roy from assaulting Nadeau, they were blocking the Sags’ players who were desperately trying to defend their goaltender. Trust me, it could have been way worst and hopefully Nadeau didn’t sustain any injuries to the head during the event. Being a class act like his dad, the Remparts’ goalie decided to give the finger to the entire crowd once he was heading for the showers. At that moment, a Sags’ player decided it was enough and made his way to the goalie to give him a correction and to stop him from clowning around. Too bad he didn’t really have time to give him a good one right in the teeth; I would have loved to see that.

After the game, Jonathan Roy made it clear, he wasn’t sorry for what he did and he didn’t regret a thing. He seemed very honest and even if he had time to think about what he did, he didn’t seem to be apologetic at all. Today, a few hours before his sentence comes out, he decides to read a sorry letter in front of the Quebec press and pretends he his sorry for his act. You should have seen him during his press conference with his cocky look and his freaking ugly chain sticking out of his shirt. First of all, I am 99% sure he didn’t write that letter because I doubt he can write. He didn’t look sincere at all and we can just hope that the league will suspend him for at least 30-40 games for his disgracious behaviour last Friday.

Now, I am not trying to say that Roy is a bad father, but he is definitely a bad influence on the young players that he coaches because they look up to him and they would do anything he ask them to do. Roy should really consider giving his coaching job to someone else next season, because even if he really promotes the QMJHL, he does it in a very negative way and I believe Gilles Courteau  should put his pants on and stop the madness now.
